A film adaption of Laura Wood's "A Sky Painted Gold".
Set in the 1920s, main character, Lou, is from a family of 8 children who live in a small farmhouse on the Cornish coast. The grand Cardew House that looks over her village from a small island just off the coast has been abandoned for over 5 years. Lou starts to steal herself onto the island and eventually into the house. Then, in the dreamy summer of 1929, the Cardew siblings return and she finds herself entangled in their glamorous lives of moonlit parties
My Adaption
Wealthy youths of the 1920s seeked exclusive and exciting parties to attend. In "A Sky Painted Gold", guests travelled from London to Cornwall, so I wanted to create a venue that would amaze these frequent party-goers.
Since the Cardew House is on a coastal island, I designed the exterior to be a converted
lighthouse with a Georgian house extension, as seen on the graphic design of the party invitation.
Due to the secrecy of the Cardew siblings throughout the story, I thought it was fitting to have slightly hidden room in their house that evokes a speakeasy bar. The cave speakeasy that I designed is in the basement of the Cardew House and leads to a hidden cove. The interior features sections of the cave it is built into. The interior design combines Georgian interiors, to match the style of the main house, and then plenty of iconic Art Deco elements which brings 1920s glitz and glamour to the screen.
